The SCGSR program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory/facility in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist for a 3 to 12-month period. The research must address high priority scientific challenges central to the Office of Science mission. Since its inception in 2014, the program has provided support to more than 640 Ph.D. candidates from 147 different U.S. universities with footprints in all 17 DOE national laboratories plus General Atomics/DIII-D.
